Looks like the battle is on over the "iPhone"...I knew it was too good to be true. Apple was in talks with Cisco to license the name "iPhone", which Cisco has owned the patent for since 1999. I guess that Apple didn't want to pay what Cisco wanted for the rights. Even though Cisco owns the trademark and released phones a year ago under the "iPhone" name Apple is trying to say that "iPhone" is generic. If that is the case the name "Apple" is generic and so is "Windows". One could even argue that iPod was a generic term for MP3 players. I think that this is a huge joke and I hope Cisco stomps on them for trademark violations. If Apple was so convinced that the term "iPhone" was generic, why have they approached Cisco on multiple occasions and tried to buy the trademark? I think this is a severe case of Apple not wanting to share. http://www.latimes.com/business/ la-fi-cisco11jan11,0,5948752.story?coll=la-home-headlines |
