Top Five Reasons Why the iPhone Sucks

Ok, I am not a complete Apple basher, but Gizmodo has posted a top 5 list of the reasons why the iPhone Sucks.

  1. No removable battery: You mean we can't take along a spare battery? WTF?
  2. No 3G: EDGE is so last year
  3. No expansion slot. Go for the 8-gig model and that's it.
  4. 5-hour talk time: not enough battery life
  5. 2-megapixel camera when others have 5-megapixel shooters on board

I should also post the original that Gizmodo got their post from, there is also a lot more reasoning behind each of the top 5 items here:

John's Gravatar Look at it this way, Apple has shown the possibilities and its up to Nokia, Samsung or someone else to look at the deficiencies of the Apple iPhone and improve on them.

Maybe LG will take that KE850, add an expansion slot, add Opera browser (w/ Flash support) and open it to 3d party development.

Jabberwolf's Gravatar I agree with everything except 4 and 5.
Most dont have 5 megapixel and not a feature I'm dying for.
And for a touchscreen, thats a good life, though I doubt it will even last that long.
As for the rest, yeah it's kinda stupid.
Not to mention I like having wifi and using 3rd party programs for p2p, sorry I dont like to be trapped into using iTunes.

Ross's Gravatar Regardless of whatever statistics there may be out there I am calling bullshit. Apple blew everyone out of the water with the iPod because it simply worked, and I feel sure the iPhone will do even better. People will realize they are dealing with a user interface that is actually pleasant, and it will blow the others out of the water. Like when you see someone using an iPod and someone using the non-iPod standing side by side. The one using the non-iPod looks like there is a rope being pulled from his ass but trying to enjoy it. The one using the iPod looks like he is enjoying life.

jeff's Gravatar But there are things like the lack of external memory cards and the soft keyboard that are going to be the downfall of the iphone. I have an xv6700 and the reason I purchased it was because the screen slides up and reveals a keyboard. If the iphone had that, I would be the first to buy one. I think that they iphone hardware could be great, but this version misses the mark. I personally will wait for the iphone 2.0.

Don'tSwallowtheApple's Gravatar Ross: If you're calling bullshit, then the iPhone is the right phone for your call. By the way, it looks like you've dribbled some of your kool-aid on your shirt...get a black mock-turtleneck and won't show next time.

g's Gravatar coming from "dontswallowtheapple i dont think your aopinion counts, anyway, hes right, the iPod might be hated by those that hate apple (dontswallowtheapple), and by others that simply dont like it, but the fact of the matter is, the products apple design are intuitive (core animation is freakin awsome) and fun to use. so when apple trumps the competition, most mac users are just halfblown away, theve seen thier mac's do alot of this stuff already, but since its on a phone, it is definietly a big deal. good point ross.

Henry's Gravatar um... Korea, for instance has so much more advanced technology because #1 there is few restrictions on them
#2 because of that, the phone companies can make better technology
#3 I also have heard that in quite a few cities of South Korea, there is extremely free fast wireless internet/WiFi

Haroon's Gravatar 1. No removable battery: You mean we can't take along a spare battery? WTF?
WTF? Who takes a spare battery along with them? Really? That is like soooooo last century.

2. No 3G: EDGE is so last year
Isn't 3G slow as hell anyways? Who cares then?

3. No expansion slot. Go for the 8-gig model and that's it.
Come on, 8GB? Thats not enough? I'll live. I have a 512mb phone I'm living with for about 2 years. 8 gig is more than I could ask for. and can you really expand past 8 gig on other cell phones?

4. 5-hour talk time: not enough battery life
Obviously, whoever that was complaining about this doesn't have a cell phone. I have to recharge my phone every day, so dose practically everyone I know who has a cellphone. so WTF is gonna be different?

5. 2-megapixel camera when others have 5-megapixel shooters on board
Yea, 5 Megapixel of shit. Quality on those 5 megapixes phones practically trash. it's almost irritating that people believe the more megapixel, the better the picture will come out. You have to take into account the lens and how fast the refresh rate on that phone is, without those things you really get 5 megapixes of trash.

When you are droping $500 on a phone, here is what you really should be asking about the Iphone.

1. How fast is the connection to the internet? Instant? loads forever? (like two, three minutes?) This will help me load and load more than I can ever imagine. I if I get stuck in traffic, It would rock to go online (while I drive to work) and just check almost instantaneously what the traffic condition is. It would also be a dream for me if I can use google to get an alternative route. Google can help here, they just started a free gps service that goes great hand in hand with the iphone. all I need is an internet connection and I'm set. What I'm worried about is waiting forever for webpages to load.

2. How easy is it to transfer music onto the iphone. Is it as easy as 'plug in, drag&drop, and go'? Does it take forever to load?

3. How good is the camera really? Test it! Show proof!

4. How strong is this phone ? I heard the screen is scratch resistant but I don't believe it. Someone needs to be dropping this for test purposes of course. Cause I know I'll be dropping it like crazy. And when the screen smudges, is it like the PSP smudge?

5. Tell me I can have custom ringtones? please? I will not even consider buying this if it turns out that the only ringtones I can use would be purchases from their proprietary store. (come on, a Final Fantasy Fanfare as your ringtone is sweetness plus) I want my own ringtones damnit! And it would be an extra super awesone if I can use my itunes songs I bought as a ringtone. But that sounds like trouble in the legal department.

David's Gravatar Apple iSucks! Don't iDrop your iPhone or you may start iCrying.

Ryan's Gravatar Does anyone have anything positive to say about this phone except that its cool and pretty? How about some functionality?

Haroon youre an idot. You want your own ringtones? Thats important to you? Would that be extra super dooper awesome? DOLT.
"Come on, 8GB? Thats not enough? " No if it was enough then apple wouldnt have ever came out with larger models.
and no, 5 hour talk time isnt enough (5 days min.), sorry if you have to recharge yours every day.. maybe thats why youre out buying a new one?
"Isn't 3G slow as hell anyways?" No, go do some research.
"it's almost irritating that people believe the more megapixel, the better the picture will come out" Okay this might be the dumbest statement I've ever heard. Where are you coming up with this crap?

Other things why the iphone sucks:
You cant download music without being connected to a computer? Whoa!! thats mobile.
Can you use any applications not created for the safari browser?
Typing on the glass keys are a PITA! no tactile feedback, which is why Im guessing they have the intergrated software to help correct your mistakes.
No VoIP.
For $2000 I would expect nothing but the best. The iphone falls short.

JDub's Gravatar The most obvious mistake here, and one that I'm surprised hasn't been pointed out, is the iPhone's battery life. Not 5 hours of talk time guys -- 8 hours of talk time. That means it has a better battery life than almost any smartphone on the market.

And seriously, who the hell needs a 5 megapixel camera on their phone? A good 5 megapixel camera is upwards of $200 -- the iPhone (phone + iPod + internet + 2mp cam...etc etc) is $399.

8GB comes with the $399 model. On any other phone, to expand up to 8 GB is going to cost at least $150 extra -- are you kidding me?

The reason 3G isn't there is because it 1) Is a much larger chip physically and would vastly increase the size of the phone itself and 2) drains battery at a ridiculous rate. Who here is arguing that the battery life isn't good enough AND 3G isn't on the phone? People, people -- you cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Also, yes you can download music wirelessly -- it's called the iTunes WiFi store. Come on people, at least read a little on the subject if you're going to comment on it.

Jesus -- the facts on this board are out of whack.

JDub's Gravatar I forgot to add -- yes, beginning next year there will also be 3rd party software applications. Just another correction.

Come on guys.

gee, you're so right. a 3G chipset is too big. you know, forget that there are 3G moto razr's on the market. no, they arent small, they are huge. you show your ignorance when you say stupid things like this. you obviously have no idea about mobile phones. and who said 3G isnt fast? on my ATT 3g phone i get upwards of 1200 kbps, highest be 1800kbps.

and my 5MP camera is useful. its not equal to stand alone camera, but when i am on the go and need to take a shot, at least it has autofocus and a d@mn flash. you guys have no reason except to say "the iphone doesnt have, who needs it anyways". its like saying "why need a car, my donkey will go as fast as i ever need to go". you sound like a 12 year old instead of just admitting that the iphone has flaws and its not the best hardware out there. nice browser though.

tof's Gravatar Apple business model is simply to dress up obsolete and crippled hardware and sell it at a massive premium to the gullible and the ignorant. If you are smart enough not to be fooled byJob's dishonesty, they just aren't interesed in you as a customer.
