DLP replacement bulbs... Where are the LED replacement bulbs?

I purchased a 62" DLP television about 3 years ago. While I love the TV, I don't love replacing the bulb on it. The last time I had to replace the bulb it ended up costing about $300. While it is fine to have to do this once, it is going to get costly to keep doing every couple of years.

What I want to know is when will companies get in gear and produce a white led replacement bulb for EXISTING sets? I have seen the new televisions from Samsung that are DLP and make use of LED's to generate the colors, etc. They completely eliminated the color wheel in that model as well. While that is great and all, I don't want to have to spend thousands of dollars on a new set. I would however LOVE to spend $400 on a LED replacement bulb for my DLP set.

Anyone know where I could get one? LOL... Good luck, because they don't exist... Only in my dreams.

Rich Gautier's Gravatar Amen! This would make perfect sense to do. Most replacement bulbs for DLP include a 'module' anyway, so adding the circuitry for the LEDs would not be a problem. Additionally, LED lights are very uni-directional, providing directed light, which is what you want in a projection system anyway, so you could do away with the reflector, leaving you the space you need for additional LED 'bulbs' to make it bright enough to replace the high-wattage halon bulbs they use now.

As an owner of a DLP myself, I can't wait.
